QLD:Gillard shares the love with AWU
By Gabrielle Dunlevy
GOLD COAST, Qld, Feb 14 AAP - Prime Minister Julia Gillard has reached out to one of
Australia's most influential unions, as polling shows her government's popularity slipping
among voters and within the union itself.
Valentines Day was a fitting date to open the Australian Workers' Union's biennial
conference on the Gold Coast, where a roll call of federal Labor turned out to share the
love at the union's 125th anniversary dinner.
After leaks from a cabinet meeting last week showing Labor's two-party vote down three
points in a Fairfax Nielsen poll on Monday and an AWU survey showing sliding support for
Labor's economic management, Ms Gillard emphasised solidarity with the powerful union.
"Some are driven to conclude that the Labor Party no longer understands its purpose,"
she said. "I think in all of these reflections we are showing an uncertainty and a timidity
that is not justified and we should not forgive.
"I am crystal clear as Labor Party leader what the purpose of our political party is
... to ensure that every Australian, no matter the circumstances of their birth, enjoys
opportunity."
Working together as a team, Labor and the union movement were "unbeatable", Ms Gillard said.
In her off-the-cuff speech, the prime minister also praised AWU stalwart Bill Ludwig
and national secretary Paul Howes.
But she took a dig at Mr Howes' book Confessions of a Faceless Man, which chronicles
his role in last year's demise of former prime minister Kevin Rudd.
Mr Howes must have misunderstood the meaning of the word "confession", Ms Gillard joked.
"It comes from a religious practice where one goes and acknowledges his error and asks
for forgiveness," she said.
"It is therefore not appropriate to start any text with the words: 'I confess, I was right'.
"It seems to me it is perhaps hard to describe one's self as a faceless man having
in the past described one's self as a media tart, these things are mutually inconsistent."
Mr Howes had earlier used the conference to renew calls for the abolition of the Australian
Building and Construction Commission (ABCC).
The vast amount of construction about to take place in Queensland after recent floods
and Cyclone Yasi meant there was nothing more urgent than axing the "evil" ABCC, he said.
"While it exists, it will be a barrier to the reconstruction effort and an attack on
AWU members' rights," Mr Howes told the conference.
The union also kept up pressure on the Gillard government over the proposed mineral
resources rent tax.
Mr Howes said money from an RRT could help repair disaster-hit Queensland.
He said it was time mining bosses such as Queensland's Clive Palmer admitted the proceeds
of the mining tax were now vital to mining regions to restore roads and rail links for
export.
"It will not just be good for Clive and his mining mates, but it will be good for all
Australians," Mr Howes said.
Delegates passed two resolutions on superannuation, agreeing to campaign for a further
increase to the superannuation guarantee to 15 per cent, and abolish the exemption on
superannuation for workers who earn less than $450 a month.
The federal government has committed to raising the minimum superannuation guarantee
to 12 per cent.
The conference continues on Tuesday, when Treasurer Wayne Swan will address it.

FED: Greens call on govt to not drop child care investment
The Greens are calling for the federal government to invest in existing childcare centres
after it dumped plans to provide hundreds more centres.
Childcare Minister KATE ELLIS yesterday announced the government would proceed with
only 38 of 260 childcare centres promised in 2007.
The decision was based on new data that showed 30 per cent of long day care places
were vacant across the country every day in the week ending on March 19 this year.
South Australian Greens Senator SARAH HANSON-YOUNG says the cut means child care will
fall off the government's agenda.
She says if this isn't about budget savings for the budget blowout then the government
should commit the money to existing services.

NSW: Crocodile visit to south coast campsite
SYDNEY, Dec 30 AAP - Campers enjoying a break on NSW's south coast have been confronted
by a saltwater crocodile a long way from home wandering near their tents.
The 1.5-metre crocodile was discovered walking around a scout camp on Arthur Kaine
Drive at Pambula about 5pm (AEDT) on Monday, police said.
No scouts were at the camp at the time, but a number of people were using the site.
Officers arrived to find the carnivorous reptile being restrained by campers under
the guidance of a Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service (WIRES) volunteer.
"The reptile was loaded onto a trailer and taken to a WIRES carer in Bega," police
said in a statement on Tuesday.
"While there are no scouts staying at the camp at this time, about 20 people are camping
at the site."
Police are unsure where the reptile came from, with no people in the local area licensed
to keep crocodiles.
"National Parks and Wildlife Services officers have told police it is highly unlikely
the crocodile made its own way to Pambula," police said.
Authorities are now trying to track down the owner of the crocodile, typically native
to the tropical northern Australian coastline.

WA: Alleged Nazi war criminal waits in custody
By Jo Prichard
PERTH, Aug 19 AAP - An 86-year-old accused Nazi war criminal is in custody in Perth
awaiting a possible court appeal ahead of a federal government decision on his extradition
to Hungary.
Charles Zentai denies he murdered an 18-year-old Jewish man, who with two other soldiers
was assaulted and killed in Budapest in 1944, for not wearing the yellow star that marked
him as a Jew.
Magistrate Barbara Lane today found Zentai's case meets the terms and conditions of
the Extradition Act and said he was eligible to be surrendered to Hungary for trial.
Outside Perth Magistrates Court, one of Zentai's sons, Gabriel Steiner, said the decision
would have a big impact on his father, who is in ill health.
"Huge, huge, he can't feel his legs, he's got a bad heart, he's been in and out of
hospital (with a) heart attack just two weeks ago, he has to carry his spray in his pocket
just to spray under his tongue," Mr Steiner told reporters.
"So this could kill him to be dragged away from his family and friends and his home.
"This is home, he made a commitment to become an Australian citizen 50 years ago and
I think Australia needs to make some commitment to him as a citizen as well."
Ms Lane was told this week that Zentai was serving in the Royal Hungarian Army with
the purpose of catching Jewish people in hiding.
She said the arrest warrant stated Zentai had beaten teenager Peter Balazs "so badly
that he died from his injuries late that evening".
Mr Steiner said his father was not in Budapest on November 4, 1944 but more than 100km
away getting engaged to his girlfriend.
He said his father has been set up as a scapegoat by former army colleagues of his
who fear for their lives.
Zentai was remanded in custody and was understood to be detained in a Perth jail ahead
of a possible court hearing later today.
His lawyers have said they will apply for an appeal to be heard in the Federal Court
as part of a special bail application for Zentai.
A WA government spokeswoman said Zentai could be held at two possible locations if
his bail application was refused by the Federal Court.
He could either be sent to Perth's Hakea remand centre or, because for age and health
reasons, to the infirmary at the maximum security Casuarina prison.

Fed: Brumby backs Fed Labor colleague in seat of McEwen
MELBOURNE, Dec 10 AAP - Victorian Premier John Brumby has thrown his support behind
Labor's victor in the federal seat of McEwen, Rob Mitchell, saying a recount is up to
election authorities.
The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) declared Mr Mitchell the winner of the seat
by seven votes over ex-tourism minister Fran Bailey on Saturday night, two weeks after
the federal poll.
But Ms Bailey has today called for a recount and claims two votes have since emerged,
casting doubt on the accuracy of the count.
Mr Brumby said that was a matter for the AEC.
"I only know what I've read in the press this morning and that is that as they've been
going through the votes they've been counting them successfully," Mr Brumby said.
"They're doing a re-check, I think, on all of the preference allocation, but any decision
on that would be a matter for the commonwealth electoral commissioner.
"Obviously it's a great thing if Labor wins that seat. Rob Mitchell will be, I think,
a great member of parliament for that region."

Fed: Uranium vote will be close at Labor conference: Rann
CANBERRA, April 27 AAP - South Australian Premier Mike Rann says federal Opposition
Leader Kevin Rudd's plan to dump Labor's no new uranium mines policy is logical, but it
won't be easy to gain majority party support.
Mr Rann is one of the key backers of Mr Rudd's plan which will be put to the Labor
Party's national conference in Sydney starting today.
"I think it will be a fairly close vote because it's obviously a debate that generates
a fair bit of emotion," Mr Rann told ABC Radio today.
But, even though there had been reports that Mr Rudd's plan would easily prevail, Mr
Rann said it was no certainty.
"Basically, there are some people in different factions with different views - there
are some people in the left who are voting for a change in policy and there are some people
in the right who aren't.
"I think it's still fairly fluid, but I hope commonsense will prevail."
Mr Rann said it would be hypocritical for Labor to support the expansion of current
uranium mines, such as the Olympic Dam Mine in South Australia, and not new mines.
"It's about making sure that there's logic in the policy that says it's okay for some
uranium mines but not for others.
"That doesn't make any sense on any basis of principle, let alone science," he said.
Mr Rann said the debate would demonstrate if Labor was fit to govern after the next
federal election.
"Being in government is about making hard decisions based on facts and science and
not emotions," he said.
"And I guess this is a key test for us about being prepare to govern, being prepared
to make the difficult decisions that are inherent with government."

NSW: Psychiatric help ordered for alleged teenage gunman
Reissuing, inserting dropped word in intro
SYDNEY, Dec 27 AAP - A Sydney teenager charged after allegedly firing a rifle at police
at a bus carrying seven passengers will get psychiatric treatment in prison before for
his next court appearance.
Todd William Carney, 19, from Miller, allegedly shot at police and a government bus
at Hinchinbrook, in Sydney's west, about 9.50pm (AEDT) yesterday.
Police said nobody was injured, but a number of bullets hit a police car and the bus,
while shots fired at a police helicopter missed.
The incident occurred after the teenager led police to Hinchinbrook after refusing
to stop his car for highway patrol officers 30km away on the M2 motorway at Winston Hills.
It's alleged Carney stopped at Hinchinbrook, took a rifle from his car and started shooting.
Officers on foot were forced to take cover from the bullets, having exited their cars.
Carney surrendered to them soon after in nearby parkland without the officers firing
a shot, police said.
Carney's brother Daniel told reporters outside Parramatta Local Court today his brother
wanted police to kill him.
He welcomed the psychiatric treatment, blaming drugs for his brother's paranoia.
"He just needs help, he needs people to talk to him, he needs people that he can trust,"
Mr Carney said.
"He don't trust no-one. He thinks people are against him."
Magistrate Robyn Denes refused Carney bail today, ordering that he have psychiatric
treatment before appearing in Campbelltown Local Court on January 8.
Carney has been charged with discharging a loaded firearm with intent to resist arrest,
firing a firearm in a public place, using an unauthorised firearm, possessing an unregistered
firearm and driving dangerously.
He was not required to plead.

Vic: Building Industry Taskforce launches federal court action
MELBOURNE, Dec 8 AAP - The Building Industry Task Force has launched Federal Court
action against construction giant Multiplex, a key building union and 11 workers who were
allegedly paid while they were on strike.
The task force's statement of claim lists 11 individual workers, the Construction,
Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU), Multiplex and a CFMEU official, John Setka.
It is seeking penalties against the parties for allegedly breaching the Workplace Relations
Act and dispute procedures in an enterprise agreement.
A court directions hearing has been set for December 17.
The CFMEU said the writs, served on the union and the building employees who were working
on the Concept Blue site in Melbourne in August last year, was an "insensitive and gross
misuse of power".
"I have been around a long time and seen many things, but even I am shocked by how
far the task force has gone this time," CFMEU Victorian secretary Martin Kingham said.
"They are taking individual workers to court for having a meeting to organise a collection
for the widow of their fellow worker."
The workers allegedly stopped work after the death of construction worker Andrew Schouten
in August last year.
Mr Kingham said it was an agreed practice in the industry for there to be stopwork
meetings to meet the immediate needs of the family of deceased workers and for safety
audits of the site to be carried out.
The CFMEU members are being prosecuted for allegedly accepting payment for periods
of industrial action and for allegedly breaching the dispute settlement procedure in the
certified agreement.
The action follows a failed attempt by the task force in the Federal Court in October
to access the bank account details of Multiplex workers.
The task force sought access to bank records as part of an investigation into union
practices following the death of a construction worker that month.
The task force wanted to prove members had been paid during the period of a site safety
audit on August 5 and 6.
Site safety audits are held after a worker dies on a worksite. They are called by the
union and the task force considers them to be unlawful strike action.
The task force had sought the documents from Multiplex with a notice under the Workplace
Relations Act.
But Justice Shane Marshall denied the action.

INTERNET GOVERNANCE FORUM USA - REMARKS PHILIP L. VERVEER COORDINATOR FOR INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION POLICY.
WASHINGTON -- The following information was released by the U.S. Department of State:
Remarks
Philip L. Verveer
Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy
Washington, DC
July 18, 2011
It's a great pleasure to join Marilyn Cade and other friends, both personal and of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), this morning as we look forward to the Nairobi meeting.
The Internet is the largest and most successful cooperative venture in history. It also is by far the most successful example of the multistakeholder approach to discovering appropriate ways and means for achieving beneficial results.
The Internet Governance Forum is the great manifestation of the multistakeholder approachua kind of annual secular pilgrimage. The U.S. Government is fully committed to the IGF and to the larger multistakeholder arrangements that surround and constitute the Internet.
We live in a time when a whole range of institutions have come to accompany nation states as international actors. Intergovernmental organizations, global corporations, and voluntary organizations of every description play prominent roles in the life of our planet. But even in this context, the Internet stands out. Specialized institutions that are intrinsic to the Internet have been created--the Internet Society, the IETF, ICANN, the World Wide Web Consortium, and the IGF itself prominent among them.
Now exactly what multistakeholderism is remains less than clear as a juridical matter. It is clear that it is a construct that enables all affected parties to participate and likewise one in which no party is privileged vis--vis the others. Its essential advantages in the context of the Internet have been recognized in very recent months in communiques issued by the G8 and the OECD.
But what is it? At a minimum, it is a kind of ethic. It may be or may become much more, but it is important that all of the Internet's friends continue to observe the ethic by participating when and as possible, at IGF and elsewhere, in a spirit that welcomes and respects the contributions that each participant brings.
It is clear that national governments have a material role in much of what the Internet is and enables. But it is equally clear that weuall humanityuare better off if the Internet remains as it isufree of intergovernmental controls.
In the view of the United States, this is critically important if the Internet is to remain open and freeuthat is, open to new ideas and uses and to the kind of organic change that has served so well and free of censorship and other tools of political repression. We will continue to press this point everywhere, but especially at the World Conference on International Telecommunications next year. We continue to encounter suggestions to the contraryuthat the Internet should be remitted to some form of intergovernmental controlufrom many quarters.
Some of the suggestions are a function of geopolitical considerations that have their base in misperceptions about the United States' ability and inclination to use the Internet as an instrument of national power. Countering these misperceptions is an important priority of U.S. diplomacy, both the formal kind that I and my government colleagues are charged with practicing and the citizen kind that all of you interested in the health of the Internet, in the IGF context and otherwise, should be practicing.
On the other hand, I have come to believe that some of the suggestions are a function of differences in worldview. In some cases, it may be the contrast between an intellectual commitment to Cartesian values of order and logic and an American intellectual commitment to pragmatism, our great contribution to philosophy.
One of the truly exciting things about the upcoming IGF is that it is occurring in sub-Saharan Africa. It is the place where the positive consequences of the conjunction of broadband transmission, Internet Protocol, and cellular architecture can be seen most dramatically. With the introduction of undersea cables on both sides of the African continent to supplement satellite transmissions and with the constant improvement in wireless broadband transmission and terminals, the opportunities for significant changes in the economic and social lives of the citizens of a very vibrant region are truly dramatic.
There is another reason I am looking forward to the Nairobi meeting. One of the genuinely noble and successful ICT occurrences of the last three decades has been the United States Telecommunications Training Institute. It has offered training to more than 8,000 professionals from all over the world over this time. I can attest that the demand for participation is high from every part of the world. Much more often than not, it is requested in the course of the bi-lateral meetings in which I participate.
USTTI has been managed on a pro bono basis by its founder, Mickey Gardner, for these nearly 30 years. Fittingly enough in light of our upcoming meeting, USTTI was born in Nairobi. Mickey served as the U.S. head of delegation to the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Nairobi in 1982. It was there that he recognized a need for ICT educational services and he moved immediately to help fill that need.
It thus is especially fitting that, if all goes according to plan, USTTI will announce and demonstrate its first distance learning course at the IGF.
I look forward to seeing many of you in Nairobi.
Thousands of Students, Teachers & Families Compete for Internet Treasures.
Business Editors/Hi-Tech & Education Writers
ANNAPOLIS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2000
Children's Web Surfing Alliance and Lycos, Inc.
Announce CyberSurfari Spring 2000;
The Internet's Largest Free Treasure Hunt Game
School and family teams from around the world will try their hand at the Lycos CyberSurfari Spring 2000; a three month long Internet treasure hunt game. Beginning last evening at 3:00 PM Eastern time, students use their perseverance, Web-savvy and reading skills to unlock a treasure chest of cash, prizes and knowledge.
Armed with soda-pop, pizza, and support from their teachers and parents, some teams are racing to complete 100 clues in the fastest time. The first three teams in each of six divisions to cross the virtual finish line will win cash prizes.
Thousands of other teams will submit 10 clues a week, leisurely picking up milestone prizes along the way and testing their luck in the weighted random drawing at the end of the contest.
With inappropriate content and online privacy concerns rampant on the Web, this contest offers a free and fun place for kids to surf. During the game, players explore more than 100 hand-picked destinations solving clues and finding treasures throughout their journey. The more treasures they submit, the better prizes they win.
Finishing the contest is challenging, but students come back year after year for the thrill of the hunt.
"I tell my students that reading the clues carefully is the best strategy to win. We have a teacher assigned to supervise and track each team's progress." Said Nancy Geiger, a ten-year teaching veteran. "The Internet is the library of the future, therefore, I must equip my students with the ability to safely and effectively mine for information online."
"Playing this game is perfect way to introduce students, teachers, and families to the Internet, and we're proud that educators agree," said Sara White, CWSA Executive Director. "Although the game is educational, it is also just plain fun. Many teams have kick-off pizza parties, stay-up all night to finish the race, or devise intricate strategies for submitting 100 treasures throughout the contest's duration."
This online expedition is made possible by a nonprofit organization, its co-host Lycos, Inc., and generous sponsors including ALFY.com, Discovery School, Educast, Education World, FamilyEducation.com, Hewlett Packard, HomeworkCentral.com, Knowledge Adventure, National Education Association, Steck-Vaughn Publishing, and Zeeks.Com.
For details about prizes and how to play, visit http://www.cybersurfari.org.
The Children's Web Surfing Alliance is a 501-C3 educational nonprofit organization that implements CyberSurfari.Org. In addition to three four-month long treasure hunts per year, CWSA offers monthly lesson ideas & cool links.
Traffic is not audience," SIPA is told.(Specialized Information Publishing Association)(Conference notes)
Publishers need to create a content and e-commerce strategy around relevance, Thomas Chaffee, ceo, ePublishing Inc., told SIPA's annual conference. It's all about audience, he said, and "traffic is not an audience. Tactics about tweeting and Facebook are about traffic, not audience."
Nowadays, publishers need to think in terms of a platform that's focused on the reader and that provides a single editorial and customer interface across print, e-mail, social media, fulfillment and web. "You want to serve your subscribers, when, where, and how they want," he said.
Relevance drives retention, revenue, usage, presentation and delivery, he said. Relevance in presentation extends to whether it is a mobile screen, or a high resolution screen--or a fax. "Ad Age has 3,000 subscribers who get a fax every morning, because that's how they want to get their information.
Ad Age brass thought the idea of get a fax was just too old fashioned, Chaffee said, so they nearly doubled the price. Circulation of the fax product went up 10%, he said.
Publishers have lost control of their readers, Chaffee said. That's because they devalued their content, giving it away for free in hopes that advertising revenue would make up the difference.
Now there's just too much information, too much data on the internet for executives to cope. So the pendulum Is swinging. "Data in itself is just a commodity on the web. But if it is organized and reliable, it becomes information," and people will pay for organized, reliable information.
Chaffee says the Twitter generation was "more of less." He suggests shortening a story, or breaking it into multiple short articles. Assign keywords to each article, and you can send it out with out pieces that also have that key word.
What sort of key words? Brand, company. Slogan, generics, acronyms and industry terms.
Social media and public safety: identifying values, opportunities and threats.(FIRE TECHNOLOGY)
Social media have taken the world by storm. Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein define social media as "a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, which allows the creation and exchange of user-generated content:' ("Users of the World, Unite! The Challenges and Opportunities of Social Media:' Business Horizons, 2010.)
[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]
The proliferation of social media is also occurring in public safety organizations, including a large segment of their respective personnel (see the Fire Service Technology articles in the February issue of Firehouse"). Among some of the most popular social media applications are Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn, Plaxo, YouTube, blogs and texting. The uniqueness of these programs is that they link people to people, people to organizations, and organizations to organizations. Social media provide value by letting users generate content and/or to subscribe and have information updates pushed to them instantaneously and in real time to computers and mobile devices.
Facebook, the most popular social media program presently, reported in 2010 that it had more than 500 million active users; 50% of active users log on in a given day, with an average of 130 friends; people spend more than 700 billion minutes per month on Face-book; and there are more than 70 language translations. According to Web Strategy, in 2010, MySpace had 57 million subscribers, LinkedIn 60 million and Twitter more than 105 million.
Read Write Web reported that 2010 statistics show that a mobile phone is a better platform for social networking than a personal computer because of its mobility and connectivity. The continued rise in the indoctrination of mobile devices will further influence the expansion of social media.
The subscriber statistics and public safety social media uses validate that this is a valuable and effective way to communicate with a wide range of the population, but not necessarily with every segment.
Social Media's Value
Communication with the public is a signature accomplishment for most public safety and emergency management organizations. Effective communication in the way of fire safety messages, preparedness information and updates, weather alerts/warnings, evacuation instructions, health and wellness messages, and crime information are some of the ways public safety uses social media today. The Los Angeles, CA, Fire Department was recognized as an early adopter of social media by using Facebook and Twitter to provide real-time information to inform and educate citizens; specifically about wildfires and other major disasters. Many public safety organizations worldwide are now using a variety of social media. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate regularly sends out informative "tweets" (text messages) to those who choose to "follow" him on Twitter.
Social media also let public safety organizations "tell their story" to the public through daily updates and departmental activities. It has become a great marketing tool and another way to connect with the community. YouTube has demonstrated itself as a valuable way of sharing incident and/or training video footage and is being used regularly as a training/education medium for public safety organizations and agencies. A promising use of social media is through "crowd sourcing:' In other words, organizations can publish a community need to a large group of people (crowd) and link with respective volunteers. This could be a huge benefit on a daily basis or during a catastrophic event.
Activity can also be monitored during and following an event through social media feeds. Twitter can easily be used to identify and monitor "trends" and has been used by the public safety community to see activity levels, access information on the magnitude of an event, and even access photos and videos of the event.
The Dangers
While social media can be used in a positive way, there are associated dangers and responsibilities that organizations and their respective personnel must recognize and exercise. There are a number of documented situations where social media were used in appropriately by personnel, either while on duty or while otherwise exercising duties as a member of a public safety organization. These dangers involve legal and privacy laws as well as moral issues.
There are increasing numbers of incidents where responders are being suspended, fired and/or removed for publishing sensitive information, inappropriate and revealing photos from an incident scene, capturing inappropriate behavior by department personnel or violating privacy laws like the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rule. Violating laws and privacy rules also create liability issues for the individual and the organization.
YouTube also has its downside when inappropriate videos are uploaded. There are scores of videos that capture inappropriate behavior of personnel, unsafe practices and/or illegal activities. Extreme cases may result in civil and/or criminal lawsuits.
Personnel must also be aware that their actions are being documented by the public at large and they must be diligent in presenting a professional and positive image at all times. Often, images and/or videos are published in real time while units are still operating at an incident scene. Shortly thereafter, these videos are being broadcast over national news networks.
Recommendations
To fully appreciate and exploit the potential of social media, organizations must understand the features of each, know the target audience, identify those social media applications that best suit the organization's mission and develop an implementation strategy that addresses associated policies and resources. While it is impossible to define a policy that addresses every type of social media application, here are a few tips for proper and effective use of social media:
1. Define goals and objectives
2. Identify your target audience
3. Identify the social media applications that are best to accomplish your goals and objectives
4. Identify necessary resources (funding, hardware, software and people)
5. Develop policies associated with the use of social media
a. Identify what is appropriate while on duty or exercising duties
b. Ensure the accuracy of information
c. Identify personnel who are authorized to publish information to the public
d. The consequences if department social media policies are violated
6. Educate personnel on the policies, dangers and consequences of social media
7. Develop an implementation strategy
8. Regularly review and adjust department social media policies as needed and appropriate
9. Regularly reinforce the behavior of personnel while on-duty or while conducting official business of the organization
Conclusion
In one way or another, social media have become integral parts of our daily lives. It is crucial that all organizations and their respective members are aware of the good and bad aspects of social media. Organizations that do not educate and inform their members about social media are likely to go "from heroes to zeroes."

Digital Bangladesh.
Dhaka, May 22 -- The present government has pledged for the change in all areas including internet access since it wants to make Bangladesh digital.
The government are busy to provide facilities like promotions, retrospective promotions, and favourable transfers to government officials, loyal to the AL government and for the partisan of AL but no facilities has been done to get access to internet.
The monthly internet charge of BTCL is taka 920 and getting access to internet, a call charge of telephone adds in the internet bill every time. The GP's monthly charge is taka 978.
Both the charges are unbearable for the majority of the people and to get internet connection, uninterrupted electricity is needed.
The PM said the previous governments did not add a single unit of electricity to the national grid though it is not true. For this her government can not improve the situation of power.
If we believe the PM's speech, so why her government have not yet slashed the monthly charge of internet? In the meantime the incumbent government already passed more than 4 months.
For the greater interest of the people as well as the country, the internet rate should be reduced significantly and maintains uninterrupted electricity all over the country maintained.

Man Sentenced to 18 Years for Enticing a 10-Year-Old Girl to Engage in Sexually Explicit Conduct on Videotape.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An Oklahoma City man, Keramat Taghizadeh, 56, was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for enticing a 10-year-old girl to engage in sexually explicit conduct which he videotaped, U.S. Attorney John C. Richter announced today. He was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Joe Heaton.
Taghizadeh's arrest followed the March 2006 theft of his video camera by three juveniles from the Crossroads Mall in Oklahoma City. After watching the videotape found in the camera, the juveniles informed their parents that the video contained images of a child engaged in sexual activity. Del City Police Officers were notified by parents who turned over the camera to the police. Through a joint investigation by officers of Del City Police Department, Oklahoma City Police Department and the FBI, Taghizadeh was arrested and charged in federal court in April 2006. Later he was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 3, 2006 on four counts of production of child pornography.
"The sexual predation of children is a profound evil," stated U.S. Attorney Richter. "I commend the citizens and my law enforcement partners who brought this man to justice. We simply cannot rest in our efforts to protect children from sexual abuse."
On Sept. 13, 2006, Taghizadeh pled guilty to the production of child pornography. In sentencing the defendant, the court found the extended period of time over which sexual abuse occurred necessitated an 18-year term of prison, followed by an additional three years of supervised release. The court also ordered the defendant to register as a sexual offender. Taghizadeh remains in custody pending designation of the federal prison where he will serve his sentence.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In February 2006, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit http://www.projectsafechildhood.gov/.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Sengel.
